Jaguar has announced preliminary details of the 2013 model year XJ and the big news is a new 250kW 3.0-litre supercharged V6 petrol engine. The new powerplant is in addition to the existing 283kW 5.0-litre supercharged V8 petrol engine – providing the glorious XJ lineup with a stunning choice of engines.
Also new is an eight-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar’s first fuel-saving automatic start/stop technology (the current XJ uses a six-speeder).
Jaguar says the updated XJ (British launch in September) will be the model’s most fuel-efficient – down to 6.0l/100kms.
The new supercharged 3.0-litre V6 will deliver 250kW/450Nm – that’s 93kW per litre, making it the highest specific output of any Jaguar engine. Look for this engine to also power the stunning Jaguar F-TYPE sports car due for launch next year.
Underneath, Jaguar has revised the XJ’s suspension for improved refinement – recalibrated springs/shocks and re-mapped shock absorber software.
On the inside, Jaguar partner Meridian has developed two new sound systems which include DAB radio. The range-topper is a 826W, 20-speaker system.
Further details will be revealed later in the year.
