Evolutionary, not revolutionary.
With China being its biggest market now, it should come as no surprise where the juiciest leak of the new 2018 Rolls-Royce Phantom came from. At first glance you may be hard-pressed to find the differences, but the devil’s in the detail, as it always is with a Rolls-Royce.
The new Phantom takes an evolutionary approach to design, with the nose of the car sharing many similarities with the outgoing car. Minor changes to the design up front sees a smaller grille and sleeker, wider full-LED headlights. As the Phantom has been previously faulted for having the aerodynamic properties of a brick wall, it’s good to see that most of the changes at the front have been to improve the Phantom’s aerodynamics, with full-width air intakes and smaller slats above them.
The profile of the Phantom also appears to have merely evolved into something sleeker, with the window line and shape of the glasshouse largely similar to the outgoing car. The rear wasn’t seen in this round of spy shots, though a look at the cabin reveals a host of small changes that will set it apart from the car it replaces. Not only are the instruments now completely digital, but the controls and air-conditioning vents have been relocated to make way for what may be a larger touchscreen infotainment display, which will still have the option of being hidden behind a panel.
