Still superb value (sorry).
Shown to us for the first time in June and targeted for an August launch, the 2018 Skoda Superb has been detailed ahead of its official launch in September, where it’ll arrive on the scene with slightly heightened prices but significantly improved levels of standard technology across the board.
The Superb lineup will now stand (before relevant ORCs):
Skoda Superb saloon:
- 162TSI: $40,690
- 140TDI: $44,690
- 206TSI All-Wheel Drive: $51,790
- Sportline: $56,790
Skoda Superb estate:
- 162TSI: $42,390
- 140TDI: $46,390
- 206TSI All-Wheel Drive: $53,490
- Sportline: $58,490
Standard updates across the range include a 9.2-inch ‘Columbus’ infotainment display that replaces the previous 8.0-inch unit, as well as things like Traffic Jam Assist, Emergency Assist communications, and rear cross-traffic alert. While prices have gone up on the base 162TSI and 140TDI models by about $700 and about $800 on the 206TSI, the improved standard kit actually adds up to an increase in value of about $2770. So the price hikes are entirely justifiable.
The biggest price leap is on the top-spec 206TSI Sportline, with the list price of that taking a $4800 jump. However, standard kit goes up too, with things like Adaptive Chassis Control, Virtual Pedal (foot-operated boot opening function), Premium Canton audio system, autonomous parking, and electrically-adjustable front passenger seat and heated rear pews.
Previously, these were part of an optional ‘Tech Pack’ that came in at $3400. The inclusion of this tech as standard on the top-spec Sportline (which Skoda says most customers opted for anyway) means that they can realign there production schedules and fulfil customer orders faster. Other options like the new ‘Dragon Skin’ gold paint finish come in as extras (that colour is $1700 alone), while metallic and pearl-effect colours will set you back $700. A sunroof for the saloon will add $1700 to the list price, while a panoramic sunroof for the estate will eat up an additional $1900.
Thankfully, Skoda’s great five-year/unlimited-mileage warranty remains as it stands.
