Mitsubishi Outlander has joined the growing list of compact SUVs now available with entry-level front-wheel-drive models.
Launched as part of the 2011 model year Outlander range, the new 2WD version lowers entry to the Outlander lineup to $28,990. The all-wheel-drive four-cylinder Outlander now starts at $33,240, while the range-topping V6 versions start at $40,990.
No changes with those powerplants – the 2WD version shares the same 125kW/226Nm, 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and the V6 retains its 169kW/291Nm output.
Amongst the upgrades included in model year 2011 Outlanders are standard side and curtain airbags in 4WD models (optional on the 2WD), full-size spare wheels and improved braking systems. XLS models also score new 18-inch alloy wheels.
“Outlander is a tried and trusted brand in the marketplace and has been praised for its styling, flexibility and technical features,” revealed Mitsubishi Australia’s President, Masahiko Takahashi. “However within this segment there is fast growing demand for two-wheel drive variants, which have a lower entry price. Releasing an economical two-wheel drive variant ensures Outlander will appeal to a much wider range of wagon buyers.”
