Alfa Romeo’s Giulia hasn’t been available for long, and it’s still to early in the game if its strong first impressions will equate to it really being a worthy competitor enough to sway customers away from compact premium saloons from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz.

One thing is for sure, though, evidenced by the hot Giulia QV (Quadrifoglio Verde), Alfa is out to prove its performance chops with gusto. Most recently, at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, it showed off the Giulia Veloce. While not as powerful as the QV with a ‘mere’ 206kW, the Veloce does have four-wheel drive and an nearly as-aggressive a bodykit.

But Alfa Romeo also has a history of making rather gorgeous estate cars too as variants of Giulia’s predecessors that are typically known as the Sportwagon. We’ve not heard any official murmurs of Alfa readying a wagon version of the Giulia - the spearhead to which the Italian marque are hinging their resurgence.

In the absence of that, digital artist A.Masera has put together a render of what that may look like. And even if the proportions aren’t quite on point, a Giulia shooting brake that looks half as good as this does would be a triumph.

Imagine, a 372kW Giula QV Sportwagon with the same four-wheel drive system as the Veloce. That would be the ultimate wagon weapon, we reckon. At the very least, every other manufacturer would have suddenly be self-conscious about all their car’s looks next to this.

And isn’t that kind of the point of an Alfa Romeo?

That said, a high performance Giulia wagon probably doesn’t rank very highly with Alfa’s upper management right now. What with their first ever SUV, the Stelvio fast approaching its official reveal. A lot of pressure there to prove they can stand toe to toe with the Porsche Macan and, more recently, the Maserati’s Levante.
