The soon-to-be-unveiled E-Class Coupe will spawn a hot AMG-tuned model when it launches.
In line with AMG’s golden jubilee, Mercedes-Benz will be offering the E-Class Coupe with a hot E50 variant, tuned and fettled with by AMG. The E-Class Coupe will be unveiled with no less than 5 models, with the E200 Coupe sitting at the opposing end of the scale.
The E50 is expected to employ a 3.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, pushing out at least 300kW of power, with a small electric air compressor fitted to help boost the engine further when needed. Aside from this mental inline-6 power plant, there will be other six-cylinder options, as well as four-pots and diesels.
The new E-Class will sit on an adapted C-Class platform. Dimension details have already been made public: The new E-Class will be 124mm longer (4,827mm), 74mm wider (1,860mm), and 33mm higher (1,430mm) than the outgoing car. This will undoubtedly translate to a more spacious interior, which will feature the design and appointments that have been seen across the rest of the E-Class range. The Coupe, however, will feature unique air vents, integral front sports seats, and electronic ‘feeders’ for the front seat belts.
According to an Autocar report, the new E-Class Coupe will be offered with a delete option for the COMAND rotary control knob, that has been the primary interaction module since it debuted in 2003. Mercedes-Benz will now be putting up an option to have a more simplistic touchpad interface in place of the rotary knob, mounted between the front seats.
