The newest entrant into Audi’s Q series of crossovers and SUVs is the Q2, which offers the stylish cues of the A3 but the also higher-ride height and interior roominess of the Q3

A few months after its international market release, Audi Australia says that February is when the new model will make it to our shores and interested buyers can place their orders now. The car will also be making a lap across the country, being displayed in roadshows between now and late October.

Andrew Doyce, Managing Director of Audi Australia, said: “The all-new Audi Q2 urban SUV will appeal to a new range of young and young-at-heart buyers.”

“This new model will exceed customer expectations of how an Audi should look, thanks to its progressive polygonal design language, and what it should offer, thanks to a suite of infotainment and connectivity technologies. We are very pleased to be launching this game-changing vehicle to Australia in such a competitive package.”

“In every sense, our newest and most attainable SUV model is a true Audi. It is as sophisticated as our luxury class models, bringing new levels of technology, connectivity and luxury to the compact premium SUV segment,” he added.

Starting from $41,100, this is, as the lower number in the Audi line-up alludes to, will be the most affordable Audi SUV yet to be offered.

The Q2 will be offered with a choice of 3 engines starting with a 1.4-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol that develops 110kW and 250Nm of torque. Only the entry-level version will come with that engine that drives the front wheels via a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission shared across the range.

The higher tier models are fitted with either a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine with 140kW and 320Nm of torque or a 2.0-litre TDI turbodiesel with 110kW and 340Nm. Both of those come with four-wheel drive. Ironically, the base car’s 1.4-litre is the only one to feature a neat cylinder shutdown ability, effectively operating as a two-cylinder under light engine load, leading to a claimed 5.2-litres/100km fuel consumption figure.

Inside, the Q2 can be specified with Audi’s advanced Virtual Cockpit system that uses a high-resolution display in lieu of a traditional analogue instrument cluster. Their MMI (Multi Media Interface) infotainment and navigation system, though, comes as standard.

The Q2 will also come with a generous amount of passive and active safety equipment as well. These include Audi’s Pre Sense Plus (Automatic Emergency Braking), adaptive cruise control, automatic engine start/stop, lane departure warning, active lane assist, rear view camera, and cross traffic rear assist.

At the time of writing, the Q2 hasn’t yet undergone the customary Euro NCAP and/or ANCAP safety tests. However, Audi is confident in the compact crossover scoring a full 5-star rating thanks to its standard safety systems, sound vehicle structure, and complement of airbags.

Should buyers want a little more flair to the Q2 (which is already quite distinctive looking), they can opt for the ‘Design line’ pack which adds high-gloss contrast exterior elements, 17-inch alloy wheels along with more premium trim in the cabin.
