A new supercharged V6 petrol engine, a new V6 turbo-diesel and an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission are the highlights of Audi’s revised Q7 SUV.
The new forced induction V6 is priced at $93,814 and effectively replaces the petrol V8-powered Q7 (was $122,600) which has been deleted.
Audi has also dispensed with the previous entry level 3.6 FSI model, so starting price for the new Q7 lineup is $88,614 for the 3.0-litre turbo-diesel. However there have been minor price reductions for the V8 turbo-diesel (now $127,814) and range-topping V12 turbo-diesel (Now $254,814).
As usual with Audi, the supercharged V6 is a sophisticated unit. It’s a 90-degree layout with twin intercoolers for the engine-driven supercharger. Maximum power is 245kW and peak torque is 440Nm.
Audi says its opted for this all-new engine for fuel consumption and emissions gains. Despite a zero to 100km/h performance of 6.9 seconds, the 3.0 TFSI Q7 returns average fuel consumption of 10.7l/100kms and exhaust emissions are rated at 249g/km.
The 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 is also brand new with 176kW and 550Nm. Audi says the new V6 turbo-diesel is 198kgs lighter than its predecessor and with stop-start technology, fuel consumption is down by 19 per cent to average 7.8l/100kms.
For the V8 turbo-diesel, an improved direct injection system has delivered 800Nm of torque and 250kW of power. Fuel consumption is down to 9.2l/100kms.
No changes to the ripping V12 turbo-diesel. No need to with 368kW/1,000Nm, it is the most powerful diesel SUV on the planet.
While the V12 drives through a six-speed tiptronic automatic, all other Q7 models now feature an eight-speed version which Audi claims delivers an 8 per cent improvement in fuel consumption
