The historic first-ever diesel-powered 6 Series BMW probably deserved better than a six-paragraph press release but that’s all that arrived for the new 640d Gran Coupe.
Production has commenced for the BMW 640d Gran Coupe ahead of sales launch later this year.
The extra good news for local buyers with the BMW 640d Gran Coupe’s $184,800 recommended retail price burning a hole in their pocket is that BMW Australia is offering the handy M Sport Package as a no-cost option.
Under the bonnet, the 3.0-litre aluminium six-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo delivers maximum power of 230kW and peak torque of 630Nm from just 1500rpm (the press release didn’t tell us at what engine speed these power and torque figures occur). Likewise the press release was light on detail about fuel consumption saying it was in the range of 5.6l/100kms to 5.7l/100kms (we don’t know if that’s Australian or European standard, city, highway or combined). However BMW did manage to pin-down the acceleration of the 640d Gran Coupe – zero to 100km/h in 5.4 seconds they say.
Specification-wise the BME 640d Gran Coupe mirrors the petrol-powered 640i Gran Coupe – such as 19-inch alloy wheels, full-colour head-up display, rear-view camera, adaptive LED headlights and professional navigation.
We’ve got a long list of BMW cars waiting for Car Showroom evaluation but the pace of delivery from HQ in Mulgrave, Victoria is ‘glacial’ at best…we’ll add the 640d to the list and hope to see it some time before Christmas with luck.
