BMW Australia has announced that it a new variant of their 4 Series, called the Luxury Edition, is now on sale as either two-door Coupe or four-door Gran Coupe, starting from $74,900.
Expected, these units are keyed more toward comfort and plushness than evoking sporty driving, which is probably why BMW are only offering it as a 420i grade. Power and torque figures remain unchanged at 135kW and 270Nm from the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor, with a reduction of 0.2-litres/100km to as little as 5.8 over the 2016 car.
Still, the Luxury Edition does come with a long list of standard equipment that more than justifies its standing apart from the usual range of 4 Series grades. Each comes standard with keyless entry (Comfort Access), electric glass sunroof, and heated seats for the driver and front passenger seats.
In addition, and despite the ‘Luxury’ connotations, this 420i comes with the excellent Adaptive M Suspension and 19-inch light alloy wheels. Inside, the upholstery and trim uses Dakota Leather and there’s BMW’s newest iDrive6 with Navigation System Professional with real-time traffic information on offer. Unfortunately, only the standard 6-speaker audio system is paired with it.
