BMW’s latest gift to itself in celebration of its 100-year anniversary has now expanded to include, rather coincidentally, the 30th anniversary of the BMW M3 – arguably the most iconic car to emerge from BMW’s M division.

Called the M3 Jahre (that’s ‘year’ in German), it’s a limited-run of anniversary edition F80 M3 Competition Pack which also packs the 335kW six-cylinder turbocharged 3.0-litre engine that’s good for 4.0-seconds to 100km/h from rest.

The M3 Jahre inherits everything that came with the Competition Pack’s go-faster kit such as adaptive suspension, upgraded springs and dampers, stiffer anti-roll bar, and the active M-differential.

Special exterior touches elevate the Jahre from the garden variety M3, however, such as the lightweight wheels lifted from the M4 GTS, black chrome tailpipe, carbon fibre mirror caps, front splitter, rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

BMW M has also kitted out the M3 Jahre with standard-fit carbon ceramic brakes, heads-up display and a Harman/Kardon audio system. Speaking of the interior, there are special versions of M sports seats that are finished in Merino leather and an Alcantara-clad steering wheel.

There are ‘Jahre’ edition badging throughout the car too, just in case anyone in the vicinity needs reminding that this is no ordinary M3.

We’re glad BMW has actually shown us a product normal folk can buy this time, as their previous centenary efforts have been either wildly futuristic or relegated to being concepts.
