If they spent less resources on hype…
“NASA-inspired” is what troubled electric vehicle (EV) upstart Faraday Future is on about, in its latest teaser about seats. Yes, seats. In its latest video, again thrown about on social media, FF talks about how its seats (purportedly) “defy gravity,” with seats that recline. Wow.
We can’t help but approach this latest video with a little cynicism, as the seats themselves are not likely to make production. Last month, a US$10mil lawsuit was filed by seat-suppliers Futuris, as Faraday had defaulted on payments promised to them for the design, production, and tooling of the seats in question. As part of the settlement, FF has been barred from using Futuris parts, designs, and tooling, which means that the seats being hyped here are basically hot air.
At this point, there’s a lot riding on Faraday’s showing at next month’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. It’s make-or-break for the firm, assuming it gets there at all. Critics and observers alike are skeptical on the exact abilities of FF, as financial woes and management mysteries continue to plague the firm. Admittedly, we’d like to be proven wrong. Whether or not they can, is the real question.
