Ford Australia has outed a special edition Ranger called the FX4. Based off of the midrange 4x4 XLT variant of the PX Ranger MKII, it also follows in the footsteps of the earlier Ranger XLS Special Edition. It’s due to arrive in showrooms starting within February, and brings with it distinctive visual upgrades over the XLT.
Coming in at a starting price of $58,915 or a $3,500 premium over the equivalent Ranger 4x4 XLT Double Cab, the FX4’s upgrades don’t unseat the Wildtrak as the most expensive version on sale. Speaking of which, these include plenty of dark themed exterior and interior bits.
Ford Australia’s President and CEO, Graeme Whickman, said: “The Ranger FX4 makes a great pick-up even more extraordinary with its unique style and boldness,”
“We developed the Ranger FX4 for our customers that are a bit bolder than most and make use of the towing and payload capabilities of the Ranger XLT.”
Interestingly, it can be specified in Ingot Silver and Frozen White in addition to the more appropriate Magnetic or Shadow Black paint options. The FX4 gains larger 18-inch alloys in Stark Grey, black roof rails, black bonnet with tailgate decal wraps, side decals with FX4 branding, black sports bar, rear bumper, side steps, and door handles, new unique black grille, black fog lamp bezels, black exterior mirrors, and black fender features.
Inside, there’s yet more black leather accented ‘FX4’ branded seats, unique front and rear carpet mats, and other black highlights scattered elsewhere around the cabin. Naturally, it comes with the SYNC3 infotainment system that made it into the standard kit list of the Ranger XLT last year, bringing an improved interface, faster performance, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Under the bonnet is the same familiar 3.2-litre five-cylinder turbodiesel engine, outputting 147kW and 470Nm of torque.
