Genesis Has Empire State Of Mind For NYC Unveil

Genesis is a new company – that is, if you take them as an entirely independent entity – and as such is as keen as ever to prove it can tear it up with the big boys. Its tougher than usual for the Korean upstart, which is sort of the Hyundai’s Lexus to Toyota; a luxury sub-brand.

It’s tougher because because it wants to make an impression among an A-team of competitors, namely those from Germany and even one from Sweden that’s been on a hot streak.

For the upcoming New York Auto Show – which is just next week – Genesis has created a concept car just for it, even named after it. Called the New York Concept, there’s really not that much that’s been confirmed about it other than the name.

Speculation surrounds it being a near-production ready smaller car that could potentially be a rival for the BMW 3 Series or Audi A4. Which makes sense, since the market for anything larger than the Genesis G90 would be impractically substantial. Judging from the front of the concept car in the teaser, it looks a lot more aggressive than the G90, with sports saloon pretentions.

Genesis brought out their G90, a large saloon that’s comparable in size to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and indeed is designed and engineered to be a worthy alternative to that, but without the intimidating price. The G90 is still an expensive car, make no mistake, but lets say its ‘more accessible’ than something European.

From early impressions of the first Genesis car, the G90 does impress with its build quality, engine smoothness, interior refinement, and high levels of inbuilt tech. While it does have a ways to go compared to the Germans, it’s a valiant first outing.

We’re curious to see what Genesis has in store for the New York Auto Show.
