Shrouded in mystery (and camo).

Lynk & Co 02 Saloon Appears In Southern Europe

Lynk & Co, the other company that Geely owns (besides Volvo), appears to be on schedule for testing the second model in its lineup. Dubbed creatively the ’02,’ the saloon will share underpinnings with Volvo’s upcoming S40 compact saloon, along with similar drivetrains.

Based on what we can glean from these photographs, we can expect to see the 02 bear a similar fascia design to the 01 SUV that the company debuted with. There are a pair of headlights positioned at the top-edge of the front fenders, along with a secondary set of lights that are worked into the grille. The rear is a total mystery though, but judging by the 01 SUV (which features in one of our images), it should retain a similarly-distinctive rear lighting setup.

When the 01 SUV first debuted in 2016, the company claimed that it would be the “world’s most connected car,” maintaining a constant connection to the internet, along with an ‘open application programming interface’ that would allow software developers to tailor their Lynk & Co motorcar to their exacting tastes. Naturally, ride-sharing has been thought of too, with the 01 SUV able to be shared with others when their owners don’t need it, along with the ability to monitor the vehicle at all times via smartphone.

Back to the saloon, there are few details that have been shared by the company, but it’s expected to feature the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engines seen in modern Drive-E Volvos, and will likely benefit from a plug-in hybrid model in due course. As for the size category the 02 is aimed at, it’s a bit of a mystery, as it certainly appears larger than an S40 and others in its segment.

The Lynk & Co 02 saloon is expected to go on sale in its home market of China sometime in 2018, preceded by the 01 SUV. The company intends to bring its cars to both the United States and Europe, after first gaining traction in China.
