You won’t lose this McLaren in a carpark.
The proverbial ink hasn’t yet dried on our coverage of the all-new McLaren 720S yet, but the supercar specialists haven’t given us much time to breathe. Hot on the heels of the latest Super Series model comes this, a special McLaren Special Operations (MSO) edition of the 720S, dubbed ‘Velocity.’
We touched on the level of personalisation available to McLaren 720S customers, and the 720S Velocity seeks to showcase just how far McLaren Special Operations can go to satisfy even the most discerning McLaren client. “The MSO mission is to fulfil customer desire for exclusivity in their chose of McLaren,” said MSO managing director Ansar Ali. “The lean, sculpted beauty of the new 720S provides the perfect starting point for owners to be creative, and the specification of this MSO 720S Velocity showcases a taste of the customisation options that are possible.”
We’ll start with the paintwork. The colour you see here is actually a blend of two pearlescent shades of red, with Nerello Red used on upper panels and front panels, fading into Volcano Red on the sides and rear of the 720S Velocity. There’s red-tinted carbon fibre on the bonnet too, to give it even more visual presence. The wheels you see here are finished in a unique MSO metallic bronze, and the exterior is capped off by a handful of carbon fibre pieces (including the rear deck vent and service cover), and a sill cover in satin carbon fibre finishes the MSO exterior treatment.
The cabin hasn’t been ignored, though. There’s ‘Carbon Black’ alcantara trim throughout, with Harissa Red highlights working with it to provide a continuation to the ‘Velocity’ theme. McLaren calls this an enhancement of the “most luxurious Super Series interior to date.” On the market for £335,000 (or around about $570,000), the Velocity sits as one of five themes that MSO has offered for commission. The five themes (being ‘GT,’ ‘Pacific,’ ‘Track,’ ‘Stealth,’ and ‘Velocity’) are on display at the McLaren stand at the Geneva motor show, with the Velocity appearing in the metal and the other four detailed and explained on screens.
MSO is keen to underline that it is capable of meeting just about any desires a customer may harbour for his or her McLaren, and we’re sure to see many more interesting commissions in the future.
