Electrified performance just got more electrifying.
While all eyes may be on EV upstart Tesla due to its impending Model 3, the company thought it prudent to roll out software and hardware updates for its Model S and Model X that have drastically improved performance stats, specifically relating to century sprint times.
Unfortunately, due to the upgrades being both software and hardware, only brand-new models will be receiving the updates.
The Model S upgrades start with the entry-level 75, which will now do the century sprint in just 4.3-seconds, faster than the previously-touted time of 5.5-seconds. The dual-motor 75D now does the 0-100km/h jaunt in 4.2-seconds, a full-second faster than it used to. Model S 100D variants also manage a small time decrease of 0.1-seconds, with the 0-100km/h time now standing at 4.1-seconds.
The Model X also sees upgrades, with the all-wheel drive cars also completing the century sprint faster. The Model X 75D will now do 0-100km/h in 4.9-seconds (down from 6-seconds previously), while the more powerful 100D model will do the same in just 4.7-seconds (previously 5.2-seconds). The SUV also gains a new seven-seat interior option which allows for the second and third rows to be folded flat, which will set you back an additional $3,000 (and joins the existing seating options offered for the model).
