While we still have to wait for the full-fledged performance models, the Volvo 90 Series gets some Polestar-branded tune ups.
Buyers of Volvo’s new flagship 90 Series sedan or wagon, the S90 and V90, will soon get the opportunity to add some extra sportiness to it thanks to what’s called the Polestar Performance Optimisation pack – all while keeping the warranty.
The upgrades it comes with will sharpen the drive and add some extra performance to the engine. Speaking of which, it will only be available (for now, at least) to owners of an S90/V90 that’s powered by Volvo’s T6 turbocharged petrol engine or their D5 turbodiesel.
Power gets bumped to 249kW and 440Nm for the T6 petrol (compared to 238kW/400Nm previously) while the D5 is tuned up to 174kW and 500Nm (compared to 168kW and 470Nm previously).
Of course, Polestar – Volvo’s now wholly-owned in-house tuning department - knows better than to add power without the right ancillary upgrades to handle it. The upgrade package also improves throttle and off-throttle response, speeds up gearshifts and shift precision and calibration work to deliver a more involving and responsive drive.
”We continue to enhance the performance of Volvo’s new, class-leading SPA vehicle architecture and Drive-E powertrains. The S90 and V90 already offer excellent driving dynamics and we are delighted to raise the performance level even further with Polestar Performance Optimisation,” said Niels Möller, COO of Polestar, the Volvo Cars performance brand.
The Polestar Optimisation Package is now available to buyers of the D5-spec 90 Series cars while the T6 petrol upgrades will be available to buyers in October.
No official word yet as to whether these new packs will be available to all Volvo 90 Series cars sold globally or only in selected markets. But seeing as how much we love Polestar down under, we suspect Australia is pretty high up their list.
