Toyota Australia has confirmed 17,582 locally sold Kluger models are included in the company’s latest global recall of more than one million vehicles.
The Toyota Klugers are those produced from May 2003 to November 2005.
Toyota says the problem centers on a seal in the brake master cylinder. If the vehicle has received the incorrect type of brake fluid, the seal can become dry and curl-up, resulting in a slow leak of the brake fluid. When fluid is lost, the brake system warning will be illuminated.
A loss of brake fluid results in a ‘soft’ feel for the brake pedal and possible reduction in braking performance.
Locally, Toyota is aware of 27 reported cases and says as a result, one incident (with no injuries) occurred.
Toyota is currently contacted affected owners by mail. All rectification work will be undertaken by Toyota dealers free of charge.
