Good news for compact car buyers with Holden using the launch of its latest Barina to lop the price – the newcomer stickered at $15,990 (five-speed manual) and $17,990 (six-speed automatic). To kick-start its launch, ‘Driveaway’ pricing of $16,990 is available for the manual Barina.
Now with the maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating, standard Bluetooth audio streaming, and cruise control, the new generation Barina hits Holden dealerships in November.
More so than the previous model, Holden-style looks are all over the new Barina with noticeable cues from both Barina Sparkm and Cruze models. In fact it was styled by Holden designer Ondrej Koromhaz who was ‘loaned’ to General Motor’s Korean design studio just for this job.
The five-door hatch back combines concealed rear door handles and steeply raked lines to deliver a ‘coupe-like’, three-door appearance. The sporty look is accentuated by ten-spoke, 15-inch alloy wheels and a body-colour rear spoiler.
Inside are the motorcycle-like instruments and modern blue backlighting. More storage facilities make the new Holden Barina more practical than its predecessor and luggage space is 290-litres (rear seat in-place) or 653-litres with the 60/40 split-fold rear seat folded flat.
New Barina is also more powerful than its predecessor – the 1.6-litre, four-cylinder engine now good for 85Kw (76kW for the current range). Drive is via a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
