Holden’s Port Melbourne-based design and engineering team will develop at least two new cars for China following an agreement with Shanghai General Motors (SGM) and Pan Asia Technical Centre (PATAC).
The entrée to the world’s largest automotive market is a historic boost for Holden and acknowledges the competency of then local team. General Motors has 11 joint ventures, two wholly owned foreign enterprises and more than 35,000 employees in China.
“Holden is a valuable source of expertise within GM International Operations and we’re one of only seven fully-integrated design, engineering and manufacturing operations in the GM world,” explained Holden boss Mike Devereux. “It gives the Holden workforce a great sense of pride to work on global vehicle programs like this and to see Australian design, engineering and manufacturing expertise exported around the world.”
