Opel has confirmed the just-facelifted Astra range, just revealed in Germany (as an Opel) and Britain (as a Vauxhall) will spearhead the company’s Australia lineup from September. This is the same time the facelifted ranges go on-sale in Europe.
“It’s a clear sign of the importance placed on both the Astra in our model lineup and our local launch overall, that production for Australia has been expedited to allow us to launch the updated Astra at the same time as Germany,” revealed Bill Mott, Opel Australia’s managing Director.
Running changes are significant – Astra gains a more athletic look thanks to major styling upgrades from and rear including new panels, lights, grilles and bumpers.
Included in the freshened lineup is the sedan, five-door, Sports Tourer (wagon), GTC Coupe and OPC model. The Vauxhall lineup in the UK includes the Astra GTC with 144kW/400Nm on-tap from its 2.0-litre CDTi BiTurbo diesel engine. Astra GTC also gains sports suspension, with a 6mm ride height reduction, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, sports body kit, ‘Track’ interior trim and a racy flat-bottom leather-wrapped sports steering wheel.
In Europe, all Astra models benefit from significant additions to the options range including Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator and front/rear-view cameras.
Opel Australia will announce the full local lineup and prices closer to launch in September.
