Holden fans and compact SUV buyers will be interested in the upcoming Paris Motor Show as we’ll see the world debut of the all-new Holden Trax (badged as a Chevrolet).

While local details are still some way off, the Chevrolet version of the Trax will offer a choice of three four-cylinder engines – a 96kW/300Nm 1.7-litre diesel and two petrol versions, a 103kW/200Nm turbocharged 1.4-litre and naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre (front-wheel-drive only). Drive is via six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.

The Trax measures 4,248mm in length, has a wheelbase of 2,555mm and is 1,776mm wide. Underneath the Trax will provide on-demand all-wheel-drive.

On the inside there are eight seating combinations, the rear seat split-folds 60/40 and even the front passenger seat can fold flat for load-carrying versatility. The boot affords 358-litres of capacity.

Up-spec European Trax models will run Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system which allows smartphones to be linked to the audio and comes with a seven-inch colour screen and satellite navigation.

Locally the Holden Trax will go head-to-head with the likes of Ford Kuga, Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia Sportage so we’re tipping a starting price under $40,000.
