Here’s some product-sharing news that’s certainly from left field…
Toyota and Mazda have jointly announced an all-new sub-compact vehicle based on the Mazda2 will be produced by Mazda for Toyota.
The all-new vehicle is due to start production mid-2015 at Mazda’s all-new plant currently being built in Salamanca City, Mexico. Current plans see the vehicle being sold by Toyota dealers in North America.
It’s a win-win for both companies as Toyota gets a new class of sub-compact vehicle to broaden its North American lineup and Mazda gets extra volume through the Mexican facility.
Initially the all-new Mazda-built Toyota will be produced in Mexico at the rate of 50,000 vehicles per year.
