Australian ute buyers will be keen on the Chevrolet (Holden) Colorado ZR2 concept vehicle unveiled at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
Under the bonnet is the 2.8-litre Duramax diesel engine which arrives in Chevrolet Colorado models next year delivering a very handy 135kW/500Nm and drives through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Chevrolet says the Colorado ZR2 concept of how to take the mid-size ute’s off-road capability to the next level.
It’s wider than a regular Colorado with flared wheelarches and features new front and rear fascias for improved approach and departure angles.
There’s a power dome bonnet with cues to Chevrolet’s larger Silverado trucks, a new grille and blacked-out headlight surrounds.
And inside are some piano black highlights and unique trim with ZR2 embroidery.
Underneath are skid plates, a two-inch lift kit for the suspension and 18-inch beadlock alloy wheels with 275/65R18 off-road tyres.
As well there are new control arms and King mono-tube coil-over shock absorbers with separate reservoirs which can be refilled via access points behind the front fascia.
Chevrolet says the Colorado ZR2’s approach angle has been improved to 30.7 degrees and the departure angle to 22.7 degrees.
We’ve called Holden to ask some questions about 2015 plans for the Colorado but we haven’t received a call back.
