Can we have this for Christmas?

2019 Honda HR-V Sport – Europe

Japanese carmaker Honda have announced the arrival of their new HR-V Sport for the UK market, ahead of the 2019 model year. More than just a bunch of aesthetic upgrades, the HR-V Sport is a new, range-topping variant that also throws in a turbocharged iVTEC mill, adding a bit of vim and vigour to a compact crossover that is, for all intents and purposes, rather dour.

The Sport is decidedly not-dour, and Honda’s doing its best to ensure you know it. There are several major changes under the bonnet, like the inclusion of the 1.5-litre turbocharged iVTEC mill from the Civic (134kW/240Nm), as well as things like an adaptive roll-bar (called Performance Damper) as well as variable-ratio electric steering. That steering thingamajig works wonders on Volkswagen’s performance models (ultimately making it feel like you’re steering by telepathy), so we have high hopes for a similar system on a Honda.

Of course, no performance model is truly a performance model without the requisite look-at-me go-faster bits. So you’ll find an obligatory body kit consisting of a splitter up front, more aggro bumper round back, side-skirts in between, mouldings over the wheelarches, and everything finished in gloss black, just like the mirror caps. Further, you’ll find the HR-V Sport rides on 18-inch alloys, breathes through dual exhaust pipes, sees with LED headlights, and keeps the excitement bubbling inside with darkened cabin trim, generously-bolstered front seats, upholstery in black with contrast red highlights, and very dark headliner.

To Honda Australia we’d like to say: Can we trade our HR-V RS for this instead?
