Now that’s simply clever.

Czech marque Skoda have begun teasing their all-electric Citigo-e, a sister car to the all-electric Volkswagen e-Up, which is said to be making its “grand entrance” in Bratislava on May 23rd. The Citigo-E will be Skoda’s first entrant into the small ZEV space, and it seems that it’ll be quite the strong contender upon landing.

This was alluded to by Christian Strube, Skoda’s management board member for technical development, who told UK rag Autocar that the Citigo-E should sport a driving range per-charge of about 300km. That represents a massive, massive step up over the Volkswagen e-Up that it’s supposed to accompany, which currently touts a range of just 160km on the already-generous NEDC cycle.

The Citigo-E won’t be the only carbon-conscious product making a debut in Bratislava though, as the small Skoda is expected to be flanked by the Superb PHEV that day too. The headlining feature on that is expected to be its all-electric range, which is widely speculated to be around 70km.

These new models are all part of Skoda’s plans to launch 6 all-electric vehicles and 4 PHEVs by 2025, which itself is part of the larger Volkswagen Group’s push for serious electric reinvention within its ranks. Any new models following the Superb PHEV and Citigo-E should be mades on the new MEB platform, which will reach production first in the open-for-booking Volkswagen ID.3.
