It took 76 years and 11 months but Toyota vehicle number 200 million has now rolled from the assembly line.
That staggering number is accounted for by 145 million vehicles produced in Japan and 55 million at Toyota plants around the world, including Australia. Locally, at the end of June, Toyota Australia had produced 5,542,804 vehicles of which more than one million have been exported.
Toyota Corolla accounts for one-in-every-five Toyota vehicles sold.
Australians love Toyota vehicles – the market leader for the last nine years – and this is reflected in the statistics. “We have a relatively small population in Australia, with less than one-third of one per cent of the world’s people (0.32 per cent),” explained Toyota Australia’s Matthew Callachor. “Yet the buying rate for Toyota vehicles in this country is eight times higher, accounting for 2.77 per cent of Toyota’s global population.”
