Alfa Romeo has simplified the lineup of its compact MiTo model with a new entry-level variant priced at $29,990.
The revised two-model lineup is the MiTo and the sporty MiTo Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) which is stickered at $34,990.
MiTo’s entry-level is now powered by Alfa’s potent turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylider engine delivering 114kW at 5500 rpm and peak torque of 230Nm at 3000 rpm. Drive is to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission.
The MiTo rides on stylish 17-inch alloy wheels and zips from zero to 100km/h in 8.0 seconds and returns fuel consumption of 5.3l/100kms.
Suspension is a MacPherson strut front and semi-independent torsion beam rear end.
Inside its typical Alfa Romeo looks and feel with high quality cloth trim, sporty gauges and a carbon-fibre look for the dashboard.
Standard equipment is extensive, including Alfa’s ‘Blue&Me’ Bluetooth hands-free system with voice recognition, media player and USB port.
Also standard is Alfa’s DNA, three-setting driver-select driving dynamics – a three-position switch (Dynamic, Normal, All Weather) which alters vehicle dynamics using the engine, steering, suspension and gearbox. In Dynamic mode there is an over-boost function delivering enhanced performance from the engine.
With Vehicle Dynamic Control (ABS anti-lock brakes, Anti-Slip Regulation, Brake Assistant and Hill Holder), the MiTo has lots of advanced driving aids – as you would expect from a contemporary European small car.
With the revised lineup, the MiTo is now much better positioned to inject Italian design flair and spirited driving dynamics into a segment crowded with handy vehicles from rival French and German brands.
