Audi Australia has rounded-out the A5 Sportback lineup with the local launch of the raunchy S5 version. Stickered at $129,300, the newest high-performance Audi S model is very competitively priced and oozes the acclaimed ground-breaking style of the Sportback family.

Under the bonnet is Audi’s 3.0-litre TSFI supercharged petrol V6 delivering 245kW of power and 440Nm of torque – the latter available from as low as 2,900rpm. It’s a 90-degree V6 with two intercoolers providing cool intake air for the supercharger which operates up to 0.8-bar of pressure.

Drive is to all four wheels via Audi’s Quattro system and a seven-speed dual-clutch S-tronic transmission.

Audi says the S5 Sportback sprints from zero to 100km/h in just 5.4 seconds and its top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h. Fuel consumption is rated at 9.4l/100kms and emissions score 219 g/km.

On-demand engine and power steering oil pumps as well as brake energy electrical recuperation are amongst the environmental/fuel-saving technologies Audi has brought to this stunning high-performance four-door coupe/hatchback/wagon (like BMW’s 5 Series GT, it blurs the boundaries).

The gloriously-styled S5 Sportback sits on standard S-design 18-inch alloy wheels with 245/40 tyres, but options take the wheel size up to 20 inches. Regardless of the wheel design, you’ll notice the large black brake calipers with their S5 emblems.

Other external features include a front blade/diffuser for the aerodynamics, a single-frame grille, rear lip spoiler, aluminium-look external mirrors and four exhaust tailpipes.

Inside are S-design Silk Nappa leather-trimmed sports seats, brushed aluminium inlays, ‘D’-shaped leather multi-function sports steering wheel and some optional carbon-fibre or fine-rained birch wood trim.

Despite all the high-performance features, the S5 Sportback seats four in comfort and boasts a handy luggage capacity from 480 to 980 litres.

Riding a wave of popularity thanks to its stunning and competitively-priced products, Audi Australia reckons the new S5 Sportback will contribute to total sales this year in excess of 12,000 units
