Amongst a raft of changes, the good news is the switch of the sporty R-Design to a fully-fledged model rather than an option pack. Amongst its extra kit, the R-Design gains lowered sports-tuned suspension with unique 18-inch alloy wheels, styling enhancements including a rear spoiler and matt silver grille and chrome tips for the exhaust pipes.

You can have an R-Design S80 powered by Volvo's new 151kW twin-turbo diesel (D5), the 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder petrol or the silky 4.4-litre V8 petrol. All S80 models are now all-wheel-drive.Across the range, S80 gains a new front grille with the large Volvo logo (as first seen on the XC60 SUV) and major interior improvements including new seats/trim, lighting and an upgraded four-spoke steering wheel.

The V8-powered models also secure extra safety features including Lane Departure Warning with Driver Alert Control, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), and Adaptive Cruise Control with Collision Warning and Auto Brake.
