CT 200h – Lexus’s hybrid luxury hatch has been named in American Forbes magazine’s 2012 ‘The Safest Small Cars Guide’.

The ranking by the influential business magazine is in addition to the North American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) – an independent, not-for-profit organization backed by the insurance industry 0 naming the compact Lexus CT 200h a ‘Top Safety Pick’.

To secure that status with IIHS, a vehicle must meet required criteria in side, rollover and rear impact crash simulations and come standard with electronic stability control. Of course Lexus CT 200h runs the usual massive list of Lexus safety features as standard including ABS anti-lock brakes, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRC), eight airbags (including knee bags for both driver and front seat passenger) and whiplash-injury lessening (WIL) front seats with Pre-Collision Safety technology (PCS) and Active Cruise Control on the options list.

Locally, the Lexus CT 200h has achieved the maximum five-star safety rating after a barrier test by the local ANCAP (Lexus/Toyota conducts more than 200 barrier tests each year at the company’s own research facilities).

“Success in such stringent independent crash testing and the subsequent acknowledgement of it in the respected Forbes magazine validates CT 200h’s class-leading levels of safety,” explained Lexus Australia chief Tony Cramb. “This gives Lexus owners and their occupants peace of mind about their safety while they enjoy the pleasures of driving and being in a Lexus.”
