The new engines deliver fuel consumption reduced by as much as 12.0 per-cent.

Like the Quattroporte, the Maserati Ghibli has scored a new entry-level 243kW (330 horsepower) 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 model priced at $143,900.

Entry-level remains the Ghibli turbo-diesel ($139,900) and the range-topping Ghibli S gets extra power for its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 (now 410kW) the price is unchanged  at $169,900.

All drive the rear wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission now with fuel-saving auto start/stop.

Big news inside – like the Quattroporte – is the availability of 100 per-cent natural fibre Mulberry Silk and Poltrona Frau seats and trim exclusively crafted by famed Italian fashion house Zegna.

Also inside, high-gloss piano black trim highlights are now available and there’s an optional 10-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.

No external changes apart from some new design alloy wheels.

The lineup is:

Ghibli Turbo Diesel  $139,900
Ghibli   $143,900
Ghibli S $169,900
