The new Holden Barina hatchback has landed in showrooms today, with new looks and improved tech headlining the changes for the new model year. “We’ve given the Barina an injection of energy for 2017,” said Peter Keley, Holden’s Executive Director of Sales.

The redesigned Barina is the product of designers here in Australia, with the new look being adopted globally with the Chevrolet Sonic. National pride aside, the Barina boasts a more premium face, drawing inspiration from the Chevrolet Camaro. LED daytime running lights mark out the front end of the new Barina, while the rear sees milder revisions.

The big change has taken place inside, where a new infotainment system now support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Standard features across the board include a reversing camera and Rear Park Assist, as well as a 5-star ANCAP rating (as per the pre-facelift car).

The Barina lineup has also been revised, offering only two trim levels: Entry level LS (available with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic), and top spec LT (automatic only). The LS manual is certainly an attractive offering, hitting showrooms with a $14,990 sticker price that is bound to raise some eyebrows. An additional $2,200 will bag you an LS automatic, while the top-spec LT is available from $20,390.

Jumping up to the LT will bag a few extra features, as expected with its price premium. It offers features like keyless ignition, heated front seats, and a leather steering wheel. And it sits on 17” alloy wheels, rather than the 16” units for the LS.
