Nissan's Micra just got stylish.
The 5th-generation Nissan Micra, one of the most hotly-anticipated entrants into the segment this year, has gone on sale in England. Five trim levels make up the Micra family over there, with prices starting at 11,995-pounds (or a hair under $20,000).
Those five trim levels (Visia, Visia+, Acenta, N-Connecta, and Tekna) are powered by three engines (one oil-burner, two petrols) at launch, cooperating exclusively with a five-speed manual gearbox sending power to the front wheels. More engines will join the lineup in due course, as well as an automatic transmission.
The sole diesel on offer is a 1.5-litre turbo-four, good for 68kW of power and 220Nm of twist, while sipping a miserly 3.2L/100km on the combined cycle. The petrols are a little more thirsty, though power figures are pretty good. The smallest petrol unit on offer is a 0.9-litre turbocharged three-cylinder unit that’s got the same amount of power (68kW) with 140Nm of torque, good for 4.4L/100km. The sole naturally-aspirated powerplant here is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, which puts out 53kW/95Nm.
The range starts with the Visia 1.0-litre at 11,995-pounds ($19,780), rising to 18,795-pounds ($31,000) for the turbodiesel Tekna. Standard equipment includes things like six airbags, lane departure warning, ‘Intelligent Lane Intervention’ (prevents the car from driving into the path of another vehicle in an adjacent lane), autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, halogen headlights (LED units available as an option), a rear roof spoiler, and plush two-tone materials for the cabin.
Step up from the base model and you get things like an automatic stop/start system, a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment screen, leather upholstery, climate control, keyless entry and go, bigger alloy wheels, more advanced driver assistance systems, and even a ‘Bose Personal’ audio system which fits speakers into the headrests.
The 2017 Micra gets ten body colours in the UK, with Ivory, Solid White, Platinum Silver, Echo Grey, Enigma Black, Energy Orange, Power Blue, Pulse Green, Passion Red, and Glaze white. Only Ivory is a no-cost option. Energy Orange, Pulse Green, and Passion Red are unique to the Micra, something that Nissan UK is very keen to point out.
The new Micra is expected to arrive on Oz shores sometime this year, though pricing and specifications have yet to be detailed. Nissan touts the fifth-generation Micra as one of the most intelligent and thought-out hatchbacks out there, and it’s certainly eagerly anticipated.
