German carmaker Audi has added a new variant to its well-received Q5 SUV range, bringing a six-cylinder turbodiesel to the lineup. With a V6 up front, we expect to find plenty of torque and smooth power delivery, though the Q5 3.0TDI is actually surprisingly good value.
At $83,900 (before ORCs), the Q5 V6 diesel is about $7200 cheaper than a comparable Mercedes-Benz GLC350d. From BMW, the X3 xDrive30d costs some $1000 more than the Q5 TDi V6. For that money, the 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel puts out a healthy 210kW and 620Nm. Power goes, naturally, to all-four wheels, via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The century sprint is completed in just 5.8-seconds, while rated fuel consumption sits at a pretty reasonable 6.3L/100km.
Sitting at the top of the range, the Q5 3.0 TDI is very generously equipped. You’ll find things like Audi’s vaunted Virtual Cockpit digital instrumentation, as well as the sharp & snappy 8.3-inch MMI Navi infotainment system. That infotainment system includes things like live traffic info, an LTE hotspot, smartphone mirroring (for Apple & Android devices), and a 360º camera system. You’ll also find electric front seats with heating (and memory for the driver), park assist, and a kick-to-open electric tailgate.
You’ll also find things like an electrically-adjustable steering column, and a wide array of driver assistance systems. There’s adaptive cruise control, AEB with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, collision warning, and high-beam assist.
Full LED headlights are a given, as well as 20-inch alloys, leather upholstery, keyless entry & go, three-zone climate control, and a 180kW 10-speaker audio system.
The Audi Q5 3.0TDI is on sale today, with prices starting at $83,900 before ORCs and the usual plethora of options that Ingolstadt likes to offer. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in September.
