Ahead of its official launch later this month, the all-new (and first to be fully imported) Holden Commodore has received a 5-star safety rating from local vehicle safety assessment firm ANCAP, performing admirably in all major categories, and more or less corroborating the car’s earlier score under Euro NCAP when tested under the Opel/Vauxhall badge.
The German-made Commodore (ZB) lives up to its locally-built predecessor in terms of offering Australians top notch safety, which is somewhat unsurprising given the car’s developmental roots and the fact that all variants to arrive here will be offered with a generous helping of driver assist features as standard, such as Autonomous Emergency Braking and Active Lane-Keep Assist, across all body styles which includes the Liftback, Sportwagon, and Tourer.
In the broader categories, it scored a 93% for Adult Occupant Protection, an 85% for Child Occupant Protection, a 78% in Pedestrian Protection, and a 77% for its spread of safety assist features, many of which were not available in the Commodore VF, especially in its more affordable guises.
On these results, ANCAP Chief Executive James Goodwin said: “Australian families and fleet buyers have long regarded the Commodore as a trusted local choice and the shift to overseas supply has further enhanced the model’s safety credentials.
"This next generation Commodore includes safety assist technologies not seen in its locally-produced predecessor, with standard-fit features such as autonomous emergency braking and active lane-keep assist," he added.
