Alfa Romeo Australia has revised its Giulia range for 2019, bringing changes to its equipment list as well as their tier prices. The rear-drive compact Italian executive saloon is now petrol-only and priced at least $1,000 higher than it was previously.

With the more streamlined offering having axed the 2.2-litre oil burner, prices start from $60,900 for the base model powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 147kW and 330Nm, which also applies to the step-up Giulia Super. In sportier Veloce guise, though, output rises to 206kW and 400Nm.

The price increase is an interesting move for the Italian marque's local arm, especially considering the brand’s premium tier cousin, Maserati, are in the midst of cutting prices across nearly every model they offer. It’s unclear at this stage whether similar price fluxes are afoot for the Giulia’s SUV sibling, the Stelvio.

While the cars are mechanically identical to the ones that were sold prior to this, all Giulias now receive additional in-car connectivity via the inclusion of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as a standard. Meanwhile, the entry-level model also gains blind-spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert.

Alfa Romeo argues that the higher equipment levels match the price increase, which extends to the Giulia Super and its adaptive bi-Xenon headlights with high-beam assist and heated rear seats. The Veloce, on the other hand, also includes heated rear seats and 8-way power adjustability for its front seats.

At the peak of the range, the Giulia Quadrifoglio is perhaps the biggest beneficiary to this spec bump exercise, relative to the price increase, as it gains a full leather interior as standard as well as carbon fibre trim inserts, heated rear seats, and an Alcantara-accented steering wheel.

All Giulias can also be optioned with a panoramic sunroof that for an extra $2,200 and a Harman/Kardon sound system for $1,500. The Veloce pack is offered to the entry-level variant for $4,000, adding a substantial amount of kit that includes adaptive suspension, leather sports seats, a heated sports steering wheel, red brake callipers, aluminium pedals, and a set of dark 19-inch alloys.

This being the case, Giulia Super owners can also pay an additional $2,000 for the adaptive suspension system. And interestingly, the final optional extra listed is $750 for a ‘Vehicle Theft Alarm’ and is available to all variants, leaving us to assume it is without an extremely basic feature.
