Jeep Australia has just revealed a mildly refreshed line up of the popular Grand Cherokee model. The American SUV is here with more equipment and engine options than before for the 2020 model year.
“The Jeep Grand Cherokee is renowned for its broad capability. The updated technology, safety advancements, refreshed exterior design and interior features ensure it remains one of the best offerings in its segment,” said Guillaume Drelon, Jeep Australia Director, Brand & Product Strategy.
For starters, the Laredo has been replaced as the line up’s entry point with the Night Eagle – previously a limited-edition – now becoming a permanent fixture to the line up. The petrol-fed Night Eagle starts from $59,950 while the diesel adds an additional $6,000 to the asking price. Sitting above them is the Limited variant, priced from $63,950. Meanwhile, the S-Limited variant’s newly-offered diesel lump comes at no additional cost to the petrol variant, replacing the dearer V8 mill, and priced from $65,950. Thereafter, it’s three diesel-only variants that follow, namely: the Trailhawk, Overland and Summit. Each costing $75,950, $$79,450 and $85,950 respectively.
Following the diesels is the penultimate variant in the line up – the SRT, which starts from $92,450. Finally, sitting atop the Jeep Grand Cherokee line up is the one we all covet the most. The fire breathing 2020 Trackhawk, which starts the party off at a whopping $134,590.
In terms of power output, the entire line up remains unchanged from the brand’s 2019 offering. The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine in the Night Eagle and Limited still makes 213kW with 347Nm of torque while the ‘new’ 3.0-litre V6 diesel makes 186kW but 570Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 found in the S-Limited churns out 259kW and 520Nm. The SRT’s 6.4-litre HEMI V8 still kicks out 344kW and 624Nm. The range topper’s 6.2-litre supercharged Hellcat HEMI V8 engine pushes out an insane 522kW along with 868Nm of twist. All variants channel their power on to the tarmac via an 8-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system.
All variants of the Jeep Grand Cherokee receive HDC or hill descent control, Jeep’s Quadra –Trac II 4x4 system, two-speed transfer case, keyless entry, reverse camera, front and rear park assist and bi-xenon headlights as standard. The base-variant Night Eagle adds tech such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, automatic high beams and brake assist.
Inside, you’ll find leather and suede clad power adjustable front seats and an FCA-derived 8.2-inch Uconnect touchscreen with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. All variants will also get dual-zone automatic climate control and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster as standard.
The S-Limited variant gains full-grain Heritage leather upholstery along with 20-inch Granite Crystal alloy wheels, S badges, an SRT sport bonnet and sports body kit, LED fog lights, tinted tail lamps, darkened headlight bezels and dual trapezoidal exhaust tips.
For variants that sit beyond the S-Limited, things remain relatively unchanged for the 2020 model year. Furthermore all 2020 Grand Cherokee’s come with Jeep’s revised capped price servicing for new buyers.
Each 2020 Jeep model, including the revised Jeep Grand Cherokee range, will have a Capped Price Service cost from just $399 per service for the first five years. Customers can be confident they’re getting the best technical expertise when they service through a Jeep Dealership,” said Mr Drelon.
