Mr Marchionne also confirmed Fiat will join the burgeoning compact SUV market segment in 2016 with an all-new model based on the compact Jeep Renegade which has been revealed internationally.
The Fiat 500X will join the 500 and 500L on one side of the Fiat ledger and, on the other side, late next year we can also expect a new sedan (with hatchback and wagon versions to follow in 2016).
An all-new Fiat Punto arrives in 2016.
Turning to Alfa Romeo, Fiat-Chrysler has big plans beyond the much-touted joint venture with Mazda for the all-new open-top sports car (the replacement for the MX-5).
Mr Marchionne wants Alfa to take-on the big-name Europeans like Mercedes-Benz and BMW and that means all-wheel-drive and rear-drive models and more luxury.
Seven new models are slated between now and 2018, starting with a new mid-size sedan due in 2016. There’s also a new large sedan, a couple of SUVs and replacements for the current Giulietta and Mito.
And Alfa’s high-performance arm Quadrifoglio Verde (QV) will get a much higher profile with QV versions of all models to take on the likes of AMG and M.
