A 4th of July reveal for the angriest Canadian-built supercar yet.

A Road-Legal Le Mans-Inspired Hardcore Ford GT? Yes

This is just the first teaser. So don’t get your imagination run too wild. But what else could Ford Performance be teasing with this supposedly new aerodynamically-endowed permutation of the GT supercar?

Come early next month at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK, Ford will roll out for public view this hardcore GT that we suspect would be track-honed but still road-legal (if just barely).

There, the news will be delivered at a special press conference by Hermann Salenbauch, global director of Ford Performance, and Larry Holt, chief technical officer at Multimatic, the company that co-developed as is tasked with building each example.

Also at the event, Ford will be fielding the all-new Ford Focus ST and Mustang Shelby GT500, their respective UK debuts. Suffice to say, it’ll be quite a happy day for any Ford fans in attendance.

Back to the this mystery GT - Ford is terming it as an ultra-high-performance supercar. Note that they’ve stayed from even hinting at any association with the term hypercar; a clever move in itself. Nonetheless, the huge fixed rear wing looks awfully similar to that used in its LM GTE, a GT-derived Le Mans racer.

Should it be, in fact, street legal, Ford is likely to have stripped quite a bit of weight from the vanilla GT and fitted it with as much motorsport-spec components as possible. Not that the 2017 GT was what you’d call comfortable anyway.

The 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 and its 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, however, is unlikely to have received any major modifications. Therefore power should still hover around 482kW range while torque peaks at 746Nm.
