Alfa Romeo Launches Faster, More Fuel-Efficient 159

Alfa Romeo’s classic 1750 nomenclature has returned with a new turbocharged petrol engine and lower entry price for the excellent Alfa Romeo 159.

With more power, better performance and enhanced fuel consumption, the 159 1750 replaces the previous 2.2-litre JTS unit.

Available in two model grades, the revised lineup is very competitively priced at $49,990 for the Alfa Romeo 159 1750 TBi and $54,480 for the Alfa Romeo 159 Ti 1750 TBi.

Alfa Romeo’s new turbocharged powerplant is Euro V compliant for emissions (189g/km) and delivers 147kW of power (136kW for the previous 2.2-litre engine) and 320Nm of torque from as low as 1400rpm. Zero to 100km/h takes a mere 7.7 seconds (more than a second faster) and combined cycle fuel consumption is down to 8.1l/100kms.

Underneath, the new Alfa Romeo 159 Ti version rides on a sports suspension set-up with a 20mm lower ride height, 19-inch alloy wheels and Brembo brakes. Externally, the Ti is distinguished by a sports body kit and aluminium-finish door mirrors.

Inside the Ti gains black leather trim with red stitching, electronic sports seats and a burnished aluminium look for the dashboard amongst its extras.
