No, it’s not a Haval.

All-Electric Borgward BXi7 Outed

Small German carmaker Borgward has an all-electric SUV planned for the Shanghai Auto Show. Dubbed the BXi7, a sole image was leaked on Wheelsage showing a slightly-tweaked version of Borgward’s BX7 flagship SUV.

From that sole image, we can see that the EV will bear a unique front grille, blue projector lenses in the headlights, a similar blue treatment on the side mirrors, and equally-blue badging. Though no details were offered about the drivetrain, reports online suggest that the electric SUV may be able to travel as far as 255km on a single charge.

Previously, Chinese-backed Borgward had stated that will bring a range of PHEVs and EVs to market with sharp pricing, and the BXi7 will likely mark the start of the brand’s electric offensive. Production is slated for their new manufacturing facility in Germany, which also produces the smaller European-spec BX5 (which will also get PHEV & EV variants in due course).

While relatively unknown in our parts, Borgward has been making decent inroads in China, where they recently introduced the supercharged BX5. The company intends to continue to grow in China and Europe, before expanding to other markets.
