Kia has confirmed an electric-powered version of its funky Soul hatchback will be launched in international markets early next year.
With a 81kW/285Nm electric motor, the Soul EV is the next step in Kia’s international ‘Clean Mobility’ program. The 27kWh lithium-ion polymer battery pack provides a range between re-charges of 200kms.
And in nod to pedestrian safety, the normally silent Kia Soul EV is equipped with a virtual engine sound system which emits an audio alert at speeds below 20km/h and when reversing.
The Kia Soul EV uses the 2014 Soul model so it rides on the same platform as the Kia Cee’d, offers a 29 per-cent stiffer bodyshell and is longer in the wheelbase than the first Soul at 2570mm.
And the EV version is distinguished by projector headlights, LED DRLs and rear lights plus 16-inch aero alloy wheels.
Inside, the electric Kia Soul ramps-up its recyclability with new trim materials and runs a unique ‘Supervision’ instrument cluster and centre stack with an eight-inch display screen.
