This is the all-new Fiat 124 Spider – based on collaboration between Fiat and Mazda.
In North America the Fiat 124 Spider will employ the turbocharged 1.4-litre MultiAir engine – the first rear-wheel-drive application for this powerplant – driving the rear wheels via either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
With 119kW/250Nm on-tap and the excellent chassis dynamics we know from the Mazda MX-5, the 124 Spider should be a handy drive.
Despite the obvious links to the MX-5, Fiat has injected some Italian looks to the 124 Spider – the Italian giant says the twin ‘power domes’ on the bonnet, grille and rear lights recall the elegant design of the original 124 Spider.
To launch its new open-top sporty at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Fiat unveiled a limited edition ‘Prima Edizione Lusso’ model in Azzurra Italia blue with Saddle leather seats. Only 124 examples of which will be built.
Australian details are still be finalised.
