Opel - General Motors’ German brand which was in Australia but now isn’t but which now makes the same cars for Holden – launched the all-new Astra which arrives in Australia late next year.

Of course this time the Astra in Australia will be badged as a Holden, not an Opel (sorry about that owners of the current Opel model).

HOLDEN ASTRA

Under the bonnet are new turbocharged petrol engines – a 1.4-litre (114kW/240Nm) and 1.6-litre (147kW/300Nm).

Holden says the punchy new engine will combine with a new lightweight chassis architecture to provide the all-new Astra with a much sportier driving dynamic.

In fact Holden engineers have been at the forefront of ride/handling development for the all-new Astra to ensure it is up to the challenge of local conditions.

Inside the all-new Astra’s all-new look isn’t all just eye candy – in fact rear seat space is enhanced over the current model.

As well there is a new infotainment system with Apple Car Play and Android Auto compatibility.

With the all-new Astra not scheduled for local sale until late next year and our local currency as volatile as an unraced stallion at a barrier trial, it’s unreasonable to expect Holden to have pricing details locked-in at this time…a sub-$20K rival for the Mazda3 perhaps?
