Citroen Australia has adopted the K.I.S.S. principle for the all-new C4 Picasso – just one model grade ‘Exclusive’ priced at $43,990.
And while that’s $4,500 more than the car it replaces, Citroen reckons the all-new 7-seater comes choc-a-bloc with more than $9,000 worth of extra goodies. These include a surround-view camera, satellite navigation and plenty of tech (although an electronically-opening tailgate is still on the options list and priced at $1,000).
Styling looks good – an evolution of the top-selling model for sure, but with that almost indefinable touch of Citroen pizzaz which adds to the allure of all models from the French giant and no sliding side doors (still the conventional opening design). Up-front is the new Citroen ‘corporate’ look with interesting twin-level headlights cleverly incorporated with a high-mounted grille and new interpretation of the Citroen ‘chevron’ logo.
Underneath is PSA’s new EMP2 modular platform which has allowed the newcomer to weigh-in 100kgs than the outgoing model despite a handy extra 110mm in the wheelbase (now 2840mm).
Power comes from Citroen’s new-generation 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel, punching out 110kW of power at 4000rpm and peak torque of 370Nm between 2000-2500rpm. Drive is to the front wheels via a new six-speed automatic transmission and fuel consumption is rated at 4.5l/100kms.
Like most rivals, luggage space isn’t brilliant when all seven seats are used (just 165l) but grows to 632l with the third row folded away.
