For Australian new car buyers, in volume terms, the most significant newcomer to break cover at the Paris Motor Show is the all-new Ford Mondeo. In Europe, Mondeo is one of the biggest-selling vehicles where it will be launched in hatchback, sedan and wagon derivatives.
Globally, the all-new Ford Mondeo is especially significant as it debuts Ford’s all-new CD-segment platform which, in the Mondeo, includes ‘integral link’ design rear suspension. Other firsts include the availability of massage-function front seats and Ford’s Adavanced Active Park Assist system.
In Europe, Ford says the all-new Mondeo will be the first in its segment to offer adaptive full LED headlights, a power tailgate and retractable panoramic roof.
And, in other major developments, Ford Europe will offer the four-door Mondeo with a 2.0-litre petrol-electric hybrid drivetrain and in diesel all-wheel-drive. Other European engines are the award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.6-litre EcoNetic diesel, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and two turbocharged petrol powerplants – 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre.
Inside, all-new Ford Mondeo will be the first with the in-car connectivity system SYNC with MyFord Touch. This comes with an eight-inch colour touchscreen and the ability to act as a WiFi hotspot for up to five devices.
We love the all-new new look – Ford Mondeo gaining a lower roofline to provide a sportier stance and inside Mondeo goes substantially up-market with stylish new looks, new trim and new soft-touch materials.
Ford Australia will announce local Mondeo plans in due course. The current German-sourced Mondeo lineup is a ‘Car Showroom’ favourite mid-size sedan and hatchback and we can’t wait to get some ‘seat-time’ in the all-new range.
