Mercedes-Benz rejoins the premium hatchback segment with the all-new five-door A-Class range (from $35,600) which debuts this week at the Australian International Motor Show ahead of local sales starting next March.
Comprehensively equipped with standard features including a reversing camera and radar-based Collision Prevention Assist, the good-looking Mercedes-Benz A-Class starts at just $35,600 (A180 BlueEFFICIENCY) – taking square aim at the BMW 1 Series and Volkswagen Golf.
‘Benz is launching the all-new A-Class in four models – the petrol lineup is A180, A200 and range-topping A250 Sport. The diesel-powered A200CDI is priced identical to its petrol sibling (A200 at $40,900.
All have fuel-saving auto start/stop and drive through the Mercedes-Benz 7G-DCT dual-clutch automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters.
Fuel economy is impressive – 4.6l/100kms for the A200 CDI diesel and 5.8l/100kms for the petrol-powered A180.
The range-topping Mercedes-Benz A250 Sport looks superb with 18-inch AMG alloy wheels and black/red brake calipers. The sporty dynamic continues with and AMG-developed exhaust system and suspension.
Mercedes-Benz is claiming best-in-class safety for the all-new A-Class which comes standard with the usual array of ‘Benz technology such as radar-based Collision Prevention Assist, Pre-Safe, Attention Assist and nine airbags.
Inside, the all-new A-Class exudes Mercedes-Benz style and quality in a contemporary, modern look highlighted by nicely-trimmed seats (two designs) and Audio 20 CD sound with the usual connectivity features and a 14.7cm colour screen which includes ‘Cover Art’ function.
Beck Map Pilot satellite navigation is a $1,190 option.
There are seven options packages ranging up to $2,990. The most popular will be the sporty AMG pack which brings 18-inch alloy wheels, carbon-fibre-look trim highlights and sports seats amongst its inclusions.
