Here is the all-new Nissan Murano which looks much more dynamic than the outgoing version and shows a distinct family look shared with X-TRAIL , Qashqai and Pathfinder.
In fact much of the ‘Resonance’ concept car from the 2012 Detroit Auto Show has made it through to production form – very impressive.
Clever use of black-outs for the B, C and D-pillars give the impression of one-piece side glass and floating roof while sharp looks for the headlights and tail-lights provide a very contemporary and unique style. Nissan’s boomerang headlights can be traced back to the 370Z coupe.
Overall the sculptured looks deliver an impressively aerodynamic drag Cd of just 0.31.
Inside the look is ‘upscale social lounge’ according to Nissan. It’s certainly simpler with 60 per-cent less switches/buttons for audio and navigation and a large, central 8.0-inch colour display. There’s also a new version of Nissan’s NASA-inspired zero gravity seats and a moonroof 29 per-cent larger than the current Murano.
There’s also a Surround View Monitor with Moving Object Detection.
Power again comes from Nissan’s 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine but with enhanced aerodynamics and lighter weight, Nissan says we should expect fuel consumption improvements in the region of 20 per-cent.
Models for both North America and Europe will be sourced from Nissan’s plant in Canton, Mississippi, and sales in those markets will commence late this year.
